Awards: Composed for the Alberik Zwyssig Composition Prize 2017, in which this composition won the 1st prize. A sacred work based on a lyrics by Rainer Maria Rilke from his “Book of Hours”.
As a composer, I have long felt close to the expressive lyricism of Rainer Maria Rilke. In many settings for solo voices and choral works I have traced his words and allowed myself to be guided by his inexhaustible wealth of images and associations. The prayer “All those who seek Thee tempt Thee” from his “Book of Hours” is an intimate confrontation with the search for God and positively identifies him with his Creation. For me the second verse “Thou growest with my maturity” occupies a special place and it is repeated several times in my setting in the middle and at the end with an ascending motif. Rilke ties God to the maturing process of his observer with these words and includes him as a becoming person as well. This profound idea of a developing relationship between God and man is central to my interpretation of Rilke’s text. The piano accompanies the choir with a figure of five tones, from which a constant carpet of sound unfolds. This series of notes also changes continuously, develops further and disappears at the end in perfect tranquillity into the air, while a devout chorale celebrates this maturity once more in a resonant manner.

Auszeichnung: Komponiert für den Alberik Zwyssig-Kompositionspreis 2017, bei dem dieses Stück den 1. Preis gewonnen hat. Ein geistliches Werk nach einem Text von Rainer Maria Rilke aus seinem “Buch der Stunden”.
Der ausdruckstarken Lyrik von Rainer Maria Rilke fühle ich mich als Komponist schon seit langem nahe verbunden. In vielen Vertonungen für Solostimmen und Chorwerken habe ich seinen Worten nachgespürt und mich von seinem unerschöpflichen Reichtum an Bildern und Assoziationen leiten lassen. Das Gebet «Alle, welche dich suchen» aus seinem «Buch der Stunden» ist eine intime Auseinandersetzung mit der Suche nach Gott und identifiziert ihn praktisch mit seiner Schöpfung. Für mich nimmt die zweite Strophe «mit meinem Reifen reift dein Reich» eine besondere Stellung ein und sie wird in meiner Vertonung in der Mitte um am Schluss mit einem aufsteigenden Motiv mehrmals wiederholt. Rilke bindet mit diesem Worten Gott geradezu an den Reifeprozess seines Betrachters und schliesst ihn als Werdender ebenfalls mit ein. Diese tiefgründige Vorstellung von einem sich-entwickelnden Verhältnis von Gott und Mensch ist zentral für meine Interpretation von Rilkes Text. Das Klavier begleitet den Chor mit einer Figur aus fünf Tönen, aus der sich ein stetiger Klangteppich entfaltet. Auch diese Tonreihe wandelt sich fortlaufend, entwickelt sich weiter und entschwindet zum Schluss in vollkommener Ruhe in die Höhe während ein andächtiger Choral noch einmal dieses Reifen klangvoll zelebriert.
